Modern football is bollocks
Any adult who actually CARES about it nowadays is a bit of a knob.
It's SHOWBIZ, innit?
It's like wrestling, or pantomime, or soap opera.
Anyone paying money for it is being sold a pup.
As a sporting contest, it's over.
I for one can't be arsed with it anymore.
As for West Ham, we'll slump from one defeat to another until it becomes apparent Pellegrini is a washed up fraud, he'll get sacked in November and be replaced by someone "safe" and we'll finish 15th.

Bollocks to it.

Fuck off.

Miike, with respect, we're all in control of ourselves and how much we want to gamble. The first two Sky Boosts have already come in this season at 10/1 and 6/1. Bet sensibly and that’s the next 16 weeks covered.

Sports betting is huge these days and it adds loads of interest. Of course it can be dangerous, especially when you can bet at the touch of a button on your phone these days. But no one can be blamed for spiralling out of control other than the person themselves. My dad and family had gambling problems and it all stemmed from themselves and the buzz of it all.

Remember how the lights went out during a live game when Lampard Jnr scored against Palace about 20 years ago and there was evidence that they suspected match rigging in Asia?

The government (then New Labour) only went and legalized it in 2005 for them and opening the doors to hundreds of imitators from home and abroad as well...

that's why i have very little sympathy for stoke considering who owns them. yes, the far east, jersey and other tax dodging shitholes

It's wrong.

When they deregulated gambling in 2005 they set in motion a chain of consequences which devastated a lot of town centres and high streets...

Betting Shops - Payday Loan Shops - Pawnbrokers etc.

The old regulated betting shops were a better system not perfect but funny how a lot of these betting companies are also based in the far east (including Betway) yet nobody bats an eyelid when a consortium from there takes a punt on getting a championship club into the Premiership.

The mind boggles

he's right though in that article about the cunt stelling pushing gambling, as a bad gambler and someone who over the years spent a lot of time in betting shops, it does ruin lives and sky bet brand and him promoting it while being one of the channel's main presenters is a conflict of interest

A lot - "Kammy" he was hawking about 6 things during the world cup

Gillette, Ladbrookes, Papa Johns

Maybe he should also promote Gaviscon to help relieve his sulphur based acid reflux...

good article that and spot on about stelling. kamara's another one who's very flavour of the month all of a sudden, i wonder how many gallons of spunk he had to swallow to become the chosen one for the demons in power at sky :.)

An article from the Adturds blog which absolutely nails modern football IMHO

People didn't move around so much back then as there wasn't a lot of money around either so it was all a lot more parochial.

Yeah i used to like all that rawness about football then my grandad put me to shame on what he saw to make me think my 'luxury violence' (where i chose to be a part of it) was none too clever really. See some bad stuff in clubs back then too like chunks of a blokes neck being dug out by a smashed glass in the Tottenham Ritzy amongst many other things.

Just hope my kids steer clear and if that means sanitisation then so be it I had my time and even that was put into perspective by even harsher times from earlier generations of my family and talking to them.

Fair enough mate. I suppose you can only comment on what you have seen and have no way of comparing the past and present.

I wad at the Cripps game. Saw some things i wish i hadnt, was way to young for all that. One thing that sticks in my mind from that night was just how few old bill were there, was a free pass for anyone wanting a tear up.

Obviously not everything was great back then.

I'm not sure. As long as the football is good or entertaining it can be either like Nou Camp or craven cottage. another important part is meeting other own fans

Re: Modern football is bollocks
Mashed - back then the football was a side show for me, the excitement came from the volatile atmospheres in someone else’s community. The reality now is that fans come from far and wide to support there team of choice, so that territorial aspect has gone, take Man City for example, on the pitch they have everything yet off it they have totally lost what they once had. And there support was one of the best.

Re: Modern football is bollocks

"Most of the young fans in their early-20s/late teens are just fucking embarrassing too. The shit new songs. The way they dress. The way they talk".

Thing is, I reckon a lot of the youngsters are really trying to look, sound and behave as if they're the same as fans were 40 odd years ago. They talk and behave in the way they think they should (and have clearly watched Green Street too many times). I find it quite amusing at games.

We've had a few numpties on here posting as if they're 30 years older than they actually are.

Can't blame them really. What was then is gone and probably never will be again.

Re: Modern football is bollocks
There isnt any rawness in the game now its all very sterile. Take derbies as an example. A Liverpool/Everton- Aresenal/Tottenham game where inly 3 or 4 players are British isnt going to have the same intensity as these games did 30 odd years ago when all or most if the players were homegrown and knew exactly what these games meant.
